Looking Beyond Symptoms
Your nervous system is your body’s communication network, playing a role in movement, heart rate, digestion, stress responses, and many other functions. Symptoms provide useful information, but they don’t always tell the whole story.
Unlike X-rays, which show the structure of the spine, INSiGHT scans provide information about function. Depending on your needs, scanning may include NeuroThermal scanning, surface electromyography (sEMG), heart rate variability (HRV), or a combination of these technologies.
Three Ways to Gather More Information
Each type of INSiGHT scan measures something different, providing additional information to consider as part of your overall evaluation. Results are displayed visually, making it easier for patients and parents to see and discuss some of the patterns being evaluated.
NeuroThermal Scanning
NeuroThermal scanning measures temperature patterns along both sides of the spine. Because skin temperature is influenced in part by the autonomic nervous system, these patterns can provide information related to autonomic activity.
Heart Rate Variability
Heart rate variability, or HRV, measures subtle differences in the amount of time between heartbeats. These measurements provide information about autonomic nervous system activity and how the body may be responding to and adapting to stress.
Surface Electromyography
Surface electromyography, or sEMG, measures electrical activity in muscles along the spine. It can show patterns in muscle activity, tension, and symmetry. We consider these findings alongside your posture, movement, and other examination findings.
Non-Invasive Scanning
for the Whole Family
INSiGHT scans don’t involve needles or radiation, and the scan itself takes only a short time. The technology can be used with infants, children, adults, and expectant mothers.
This can be particularly useful with babies and young children who may not yet be able to explain what they’re feeling. Dr. ShaRhae has advanced pediatric and prenatal chiropractic training and decades of experience caring for young patients so that the process can be adapted to each child’s age and needs.
Adding Objective Information to Your Chiropractic Evaluation
INSiGHT scanning is one part of your evaluation, not a replacement for your health history or orthopedic and neurological examination. Dr. ShaRhae brings all of this information together when deciding what chiropractic approach may be appropriate for you.
An initial scan may also provide baseline measurements. When appropriate, periodic rescanning allows us to compare findings over time alongside your symptoms, examination findings, and other measures.
